OUR POLICIES
OK! Here are some of the things you need to know before you contact us. Please read it all, many of your questions are answered here.
We're located on Long Island, New York. We don't ship our babies. We'll be happy to meet customers anywhere within 100 miles of our home in Mastic Beach. If you can't come to our home or meet us within 100 miles, then we probably won't be able to sell you a hedgehog. There are lots of other hedgehog breeders all across the country, several of which we will be linking to as soon as they have websites ready. We can help you to find someone closer to you, just ask, but don't ask us to ship an animal to you. We can't do it.
Hedgehogs are currently illegal to own in several states and municipalities. New York City doesn't allow them, although the rest of the state does. Pennsylvania and California do not allow them. There are others, but it's YOUR JOB to find out if they are legal where you live. This isn't hard to do, if you remember that Google is your friend.
We will guarantee the health of our babies for two weeks after you bring one home, IF you have housed and fed him according to our instructions. If the baby should become ill during that time, and you have been taking proper care of him, notify us immediately. We may be able to recommend a remedy for him. If not, we will take him back for a full refund, or give you first pick of the next available babies, whichever you prefer. You'll have to show us how you've been caring for him. After the two week period, we can't provide a refund or exchange.
If at any time during the animal's life, if you can no longer care for him and need to rehome him, PLEASE get in touch with us. We will happily take one of our babies back to rehome him. We won't be able to offer a refund under these circumstances, but we'd prefer it if you called us before offering the hedgehog to a stranger.
Our babies cost between $175 and $250, depending on their coloration. Standard grays would be $175, a pinto would be $200, and a cinnamon or another rare color would be $250. The prices we charge for our hedgehogs are the same as or less than what you would pay at a typical pet store, and if you buy from a pet store, you will be buying an unsocialized and possibly severely ill and neglected hedgehog. When you look at it that way, you'll see that our prices are fair and reasonable, but asking us to discount them is not. So don't ask. The only discount we will ever offer is for a repeat customer, or a referral from a previous customer. Period.
We ask all potential customers to provide three pieces of information: Your full name, an email address that you check regularly, and a telephone number where you can be reached. There is a reason why we ask for this information. When a baby becomes available for you, we really want you to have him. If we can't reach you, we'll have to move on to the next person on the list, and you'll lose your place on the list. Neither of us wants that, right? So please, give me a way to get ahold of you. I'm not going to call you drunk at 3 AM, I promise.
Many questions about how to care for your new baby are answered on our care sheet, here on the site. You'll also be provided with a printed copy when you pick up the baby. If you think of a question that is not addressed on the care sheet, please do not hesitate to contact us immediately. We will be more than happy to provide our full support to you, for as long as your hedgehog is with you.
